shark1 - Shark Tooth Necklace

shark1 - Shark Tooth Necklace

Genuine Fossil Shark Tooth

50 million years old

Found in the phosphate mines of nothwest Aftia, this area was once covered by ocean water. This extinct shark grew to be over 15 feet long and 2000 lbs. Larger than the great white swimming today. The small teeth-like protrusions on the sede near the root of the tooth are called cusplets. In their lifetime, sharks lose thousandsofteeth and new ones grow back to replace the ones lost. When the teeth fall the the bottom of the ocean, they absorb minerals from their surroundings and turn brown, grey or black. Shark teeth are the worlds most common vertebrate fossil and a precious gem from natures past. Shark teeth are one of the few natural history items available in relative abundance throught the world either as a modern by-products of commercial fishing, or as the fossilized remains of millions of years of evolution. Enjoy this on a beautiful silver clasp and rugged rope necklace.
